Number one on my New Year’s Resolution list, is to go to the gym multiple times a week, in particular at least THREE times. I already have a years membership so step one is complete. The next step is motivation in getting my ass to exercise. Here are some tips and advice.
I joined the cheer-leading squad this year at uni and it has literally been so fun and due to the strict attendance requirements it has meant two days a week of exercise. I realised that the reason I go is because I have fun and because I have to. I want to translate this type of motivation into me going to the gym or even just me participating in some serious home workouts.
One way of getting this motivation is following a lot of fitness and health inspiration pages on Instagram. It serves as a daily reminder of goals that can be achieved and while I am comparing myself sadly, it gives me hope after seeing all the successful weight-loss an fitness journeys.
Another way is doing exercise with friends and egging each other on to get fit and do more. There’s nothing like a bit of healthy competition with yourself and your mates. Exercising in a group is fun and very encouraging. Plus it takes the fear out of being in a gym with big sweaty men around you.
Find a good workout routine, whether it’s for the gym or a home workout. There are loads on the web and plenty on Instagram to nick and try out. Some 5 min ones and lots of health tips. Make the routines fun and incorporate a good music playlist. Some workouts I recommend are Shaun T’s Hip Hop Abs, Insanity and Zumba. (My current regime is the Fit Affinity guide which is fabulous.)
For me my gym is right on campus where all my lectures take place. I plan on getting lots of nice new gym clothes as some encouragement and wear them the days I plan on going to lectures. There should be no reason for me to not go to the gym when I have to walk RIGHT past it on the way home. My laziness needs to be banished this 2016.
These are the things I’m going to do in the new year to ensure I achieve my goal of going to the gym at least 3 times a week. If you have a similar goal I hope they help you too!
